Outback Choir

Directed/written by Lisa Nicol

This is the first time that I’ve worked with the producers, Jennifer Cummins and Seema Khanna at Heiress Films. And what a lovely subject matter to kick-start the business relationship. When I first saw the trailer and witnessed these kids, I was hooked. It’s a moving beautiful story. The music will feature contemporary pop songs and classics sung by the individuals who make up Outback Choir.

Outback Choir follows the heart warming journey of a regional children’s choir, and its founder Michelle Leonard’s personal mission to bring a desolate musical landscape back to life. Chronicling their journey from audition to stage, the film reveals the trials and tribulations of running a children’s choir in the most isolated and disadvantaged region of NSW, where sport is king and music education is non-existent. Outback Choir is a moving portrait of the fragile world of possibility that is childhood, and reminds us why no child, anywhere, should grow up without music.
